Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will join European leaders in an urgent online call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, aiming to solidify Western unity ahead of Trump’s high-profile summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
The leaders are expected to emphasize that no decisions about Ukraine should be made without its direct involvement—particularly concerning its borders and sovereignty. Zelensky has repeatedly warned that any peace deal negotiated without Ukraine could legitimize aggression and embolden further Russian advances.
Trump has floated the idea of a territorial compromise, suggesting a potential “swapping of territories” as part of a broader peace agreement. Sources suggest Putin may demand that Kyiv surrender its remaining control over parts of the Donbas region.
Speaking on Tuesday, Zelensky dismissed any such concessions, arguing they would only pave the way for further Russian incursions. “You don’t build peace by feeding the aggressor,” he said.
